April 2018 - Martello Toilets Update

Submitted on 20 April 2018 by STC Officers

Residents have recently complained to Seaford Town Council about the cleaning standards and smells at the Martello toilets. This is not a new issue and Seaford Town Council continues to look at ways to address it both in the short and long term.

Whilst Seaford Town Council owns the Martello Toilets the responsibility for cleaning them lies with Lewes District Council who employ contractors to undertake the cleaning four times a day.

The toilets are due for renewal as part of the Seafront Development Plan. Funding to build new toilets is currently being raised by Seaford Town Council through land and beach hut sales. It is planned that sufficient funds will have been raised by October to build a new high quality toilet block with concessions and sheltered seating.

Until then some minor improvements will be put in place to address the smells including jet washing the drains and adding vents to windows as well as commissioning a deep clean by a specialist firm of cleaners. This will take place on Thursday 26th April, please note the toilets will be out of use all day to enable this to take place. The Town Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.
