The repairs to Seaford terminal Groyne are progressing well, however after removing the groyne planks and completing some tests on the timber posts/piles, wet rot damage was more extensive than initially anticipated (see attached photo). As a result, 32 of the 58 posts need to be replaced. Unfortunately, the posts are cast into the concrete making them difficult to remove so this will result in a programme delay. Work is now anticipated to complete in late April.
3rd February 2025:
The Environment Agency need to temporarily close public access to Splash Point Terminal groyne from next week to allow essential maintenance to be undertaken on the raised timber groyne/wall. The work will be conducted alongside the recycling operation and is expected to complete early April 2025.
The essential work will involve repairing wet rot damage and strengthening of the vertical timber posts, and replacement of timber groyne planks. The maintenance is essential to ensure the groyne can continue to operate as designed (to minimise shingle loss from the frontage) and to ensure the structure remains safe for public access.
Although the groyne will be fenced off, the promenade will remain fully open, please see annotated aerial photograph below.
