The Council is currently recruiting to fill the following vacancy that has arisen:

Administration Assistant/Mayor's Secretary - Temporary Contract

Are you interested in how your Town Council works and helping maintain the smooth running of our relatively small yet busy office? Are you more than comfortable using a computer and confident in a role involving customer service? The Council is seeking to take on an Administration Assistant on a temporary basis for maternity cover; ideally starting mid-March.

Whilst being responsible for a large part of the general office administration and incoming enquiries, this is an administrative role with a twist as you will be dual-hatted, also taking on the role of Mayor’s Secretary. This aspect of the role involves taking ownership of the administrative and secretarial functions (largely diary management and event organisation) for the Mayor and Young Mayor, both of whom are unpaid volunteers, and being their main point of contact within the office.

You will need to be a great communicator, whether over the phone, by email or face-to-face, with a variety of people and in differing situations. You will also need to be an experienced administrator and through this, used to dealing with changing priorities and taking ownership of the tasks in your remit.

For the right person this is great chance to get involved with your local council. We are a small office and team, so you will regularly get involved in brainstorms and idea generating with activities, events and projects of the Council through weekly staff meetings.

The role is for 22 hours per week, 9.00am to 5.00pm Wednesdays & Thursdays and 9.00am to 4.30pm Fridays. The temporary contract will be for a period of 12-15 months (ending March to May 2019). Being maternity cover we cannot be 100% sure on dates and will need to confirm nearer the time the exact length of the contract (plenty of notice will however be given). The role has been graded at local government scale points 11-15, the pro-rata equivalent of £9,220-£10,151 per annum.

The Council offers a generous package to its employees; as well as an above average holiday entitlement and organisational sick pay, there is an annual bonus offered to those with low absence levels, a subscription to Perkbox (an online discount platform), discount at The View restaurant & bar and Wave Leisure membership, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and a flexible and friendly working environment.

Applications should be submitted electronically to Georgia Raeburn, Executive Support Officer, at

Closing date for applications is Friday 23rd February 2018 at midday.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st March 2018.
